Characterised by a long stem and tall slender bowl, the champagne flute is designed to be held by the stem to prevent the heat of the hand from warming the champagne, thus prolonging the chill of the drink. The small opening and condensed surface area of the bowl preserves the trademark carbonation of the beverage, while also heightening the bubbly effect of the drink by condensing the rising bubbles into a smaller space.
