When should I replace my pillows?

Pillow Buying Guide

When should I replace my pillows?

When should I replace my pillow A pillow usually has a lifespan of approximately 4 years. This is significantly shorter than the lifespan of a duvet because of the rigorous wear-and-tear that the pillow goes through. The weight of your head and the fact that we sweat while we sleep all contribute to this shorter lifespan. A natural fill pillow will have a longer lifespan than a synthetic fill pillow. To revive your pillows, place them in the tumble dryer on a cool setting for approximately 20 minutes. The following are signs that it may be time to replace your pillows;
  • The pillow is flat and difficult to fluff up
    The filling has lost its fill power. This means the down clusters and feathers are damaged and are breaking down. The pillow will no longer be able to support your neck.
  • The casing is discoloured
    During the night we sweat and over time this can discolour the casing. The sweat can also seep into the pillow and allow unhealthy bacteria to grow in the filling.
  • The pillow is lumpy
    Over time the filling can deteriorate and lump together. This happens more often with a synthetic fill. When this happens it is very difficult to even out the filling inside the pillow.
